Kami berani mengatakan bahwa bulan madu di Bali tidak lengkap tanpa mengunjungi Ubud (dan sebaiknya menginap beberapa malam). Selain itu, lokasi geografis Ubud menjadikannya titik awal yang bagus untuk perjalanan sehari ke bagian lain pulau, terutama Bali Tengah dan Utara.

Sejak kesuksesan film Eat Pray Love tahun 2010 yang dibintangi Julia Roberts, sebuah adaptasi dari buku karya Elizabeth Gilbert, banyak orang telah diperkenalkan dengan Ubud. Namun Ubud telah dikenal jauh sebelumnya, terutama di kalangan pelukis dan seniman internasional, yang telah sering mengunjungi kota ini sejak awal tahun 1900-an.

Banyak seniman bahkan menjadi penduduk tetap. Museum Blanco Renaissance Ubud adalah salah satu bukti dari seniman tersebut - museum ini menyoroti karya-karya pelukis Spanyol-Amerika Antonio Blanco, yang tinggal di Ubud dari tahun 1952 hingga wafatnya pada tahun 1999. Jalan Raya Ubud dianggap sebagai Jalan Utama Ubud. Jalan utama ini akan menjadi ramai, terutama di malam hari. Anda bisa menghindari keramaian dengan mengunjungi taman-taman indah yang merupakan bagian dari kompleks Pura Saraswati. Kolam bunga teratai yang indah di depannya adalah tempat yang bagus untuk berfoto. Puri Ubud yang dekat adalah pura Hindu ikonik, tempat pertunjukan tari tradisional Bali digelar. Tiket dijual di trotoar tepat di depannya.

Ubud adalah tempat yang tepat untuk membeli kenang-kenangan abadi bulan madu Anda. Anda akan menemukan toko-toko butik yang menjual seni unik di seluruh Ubud. Our favorite option in Ubud. The Viceroy Bali targets couples and honeymooners with its upmarket, quiet, and private environment. The hotel's 40 villas overlook the Petanu River Valley and Mount Batur. Their marble bathrooms with sunken or soaking bathtubs are traditional and magnificent. It also has an outdoor café, a beautiful pool with a swim-up bar, a hillside spa, and a modern gym for those who want to continue their exercise routines in Bali.

One additional reason to stay at the Viceroy: the location is serene with views over the jungle, but it is still very close to Ubud town. It will only take around 5-10 minutes by car to get to Ubud's main street, and a shuttle is available.

Bambu Indah is our favorite ecologically mindful resort in the Ubud area. Founded by the couple that also runs Bali's famous Green School, Bambu Indah is designed so that guests can experience nature up close. Walking around this resort is an adventure in itself, with unique walkways along the Ayung river as well as bamboo bridges spanning across, a unique wooden elevator down into a cave and 15 natural spring-fed pools. However with only 23 bamboo rooms, this is still a boutique hotel. We love having a cocktail during sunset from the Elevator bar.

Bambu Indah considers itself as an experiment in regenerative hospitality, by not just preserving nature, but building it back. Most structures are built with replenishable bamboo. The resort grows their own rice and vegetables. Plastics, cement and chemicals are avoided alltogether. The pools are supplied by water from underground aquifers and are filtered naturally by Bali's volcanic rock. Wastewater is used for irrigation of the gardens and rice fields. Finally, recognizing that Bali's nights can be hot, rooms do offer air conditioning, but in a way that just the bed area is cooled, minimizing energy usage.

Looking for a boutique resort with spectacular private pool villas? The Ridge, with only 5 villas, is overlooking Ayung River, the largest and most spectacular of Ubud's jungle valleys. We stayed a night in their Premier River View Villa with massive balcony, and it honestly felt like a dream. All villa's are perfectly positioned to catch the sun set, and we were conflicted whether we should enjoy the sunset from our pool, outdoor bathtub or daybed. While this resort is very small, it even has its own restaurant, which welcomes outside guests as well. Boutique private villas east of Ubud. We had a wonderful stay in the Amethyst Villa (read our full review), which featured an infinity pool where we had our floating breakfast! Other features include a private gazebo in a small garden, and a large bedroom and bathtub which the staff covered in flowers on arrival. Located behind rice paddy fields and with views of the jungle, it was such a serene experience. It really felt like we were the only ones around, despite another couple staying in the nearby villa.

This feeling was only heightened further by the attentive staff dedicated to making sure we had every thing we needed. Capung Asri’s butler service was definitely a highlight of our stay, enhanced by the warm welcome on arrival. We had honeymoon flower decorations on our bed with cake and a thoughtful handwritten note! It all made for a very special experience.

While that might not ring a bell directly, its a town roughly 20 minutes north of Ubud which is known for the famous Tirta Empul temple and the nearby Tegellalang Rice Fields. A great region with a lot to see. The boutique resort is adult only, making it very suitable for couples.

Bambootel is a high end option, the cabins are even branded as "Villas"! While not cheap, you get what you pay for. While this is a boutique resort, they have an onsite spa, restaurant and even gym. Unfortunately the villas do get booked far in advance, so definitely check availability well in advance of your trip.

Campuhan Ridge walk is a spectacular but easy romantic walk (30 minutes one-way), taking you past the ancient Gunung Lebah temple and over a ridge overlooking two jungle valleys. The route gives plenty of opportunity to shoot amazing photos of you and your partner - but leaving your camera at home and just enjoying the landscape together is a great option too.

The walk starts close to the town of Ubud (see Google Maps link below). At the end of the ridge you will find some bamboo huts selling refreshing juice and coconuts.

We joined our guide Ayu for a food tour through downtown Ubud. The Food & Culture Tour is one of many tours organized by Bali Culinary Tours (they host a plant-based tour, morning market tour and night market tours as well).

The tour we joined was very diverse, including some typical local foods like Balinese Nasi Campur, a plate of rice with many dishes which we sampled in a local Balinese compound (we were able to visit the family temple as well), as well as multiple types of Jamu, a strong Indonesian herbal drink known to boost the immune system. What made it interesting is that this tour does not just focus on Balinese food. Ubud has a rich conscious food culture. We sampled delicious vegan desserts and finished the tour with a lovely tea ceremony as well.

Ayu was great in explaining the history and meaning of the different dishes, and we felt this was a very fun afternoon (we joined for lunch time), although we were very full at the end!

We had a 60-minute couple massage as well as a 30 minute lava scrub. The moment we walked into the Svaha Spa, we enjoyed the calmness of the space from the warmth of the interior, the aromatic scents, and the welcoming gestures of the staff.

We were provided with a refreshing welcome drink and a wet towel while we chose our favorite oils. Our massage room overlooked the jungle. The massage was really good, quite strong (but you can choose the strength of your massage). The lava stone mud scrub felt good but obviously made us very muddy - fortunately the shower in the massage room had all amenities to get clean again. Afterwards we received a warm ginger tea.

For couples that like to hit refresh and treat yourselves maybe after a long flight or long day exploring, this place is for you! The Svaha Spa can be booked by guests and others, and is good value for a hotel spa in Bali. They even offer flower baths to make this even more romantic!

Kevala Ceramics in Sanur is a great option for those in South Bali, a well known studio roughly 30 minutes drive from Seminyak or Uluwatu. For a romantic date, consider heading for a walk at the Sangeh Monkey Forest, a much more off the beaten path experience 30 minutes west of Ubud. This can be combined with a visit to the nearby Taman Beji Griya waterfall as well. The Sangeh monkey forest is a bit smaller than the one in Ubud, you can see it all in a little under one hour. We do recommend to keep any lose items away from the monkeys, they do tend to steal stuff from visitors!

We think this is is the best fine dining experience in Ubud. Syrco BASÈ newly opened in early 2024 by a chef who was earlier awarded 2 Michelin stars leading a restaurant in The Netherlands. Unfortunately Michelin does not rate restaurants in Indonesia, so you'll have to trust us that the experience is at the highest level you can find in Bali!

Unique is the detailed attention to the traceability of each ingredient, all originating from Bali. The friendly staff is keen to explain more about the inspiration, origin and background of each dish. Next to the restaurant you'll find a large garden where local vegetables, herbs and spices are grown. Local seafood is an important ingredient many of the "moments". Many dishes have been inspired by local Indonesian and Balinese flavours elevated to new levels. Most tourists miss out on Sambal Dabu Dabu or Urap because it is simply too spicy - but Syrco's adaptation makes these flavours accessible without compromising on taste.

You have two options: either go for one of the 8-course tasting menus in the restaurant, or enjoy the intimite 17-course Ku experience where you can see Chef Syrco Bakker at work. We went for the 8-course experience in the restaurant, Olivia had the Pure Local menu while Dirk went for the Heritage menu (you can share, so why not order a different one each!). The drinks pairing is great, you won't just get wine: we tasted cocktails, teas, Balinese craft beers, wine and even sake.

Syrco BASÈ is a bit more expensive than most tasting menu experiences in Bali, and its a slightly out of the way in North Ubud (you'll need a taxi to get there) but you do get what you pay for: a world-class dining experience based on local flavors and ingredients served by friendly staff in a tastefully designed restaurant.

Tip: the intimate 11-course Ku Culinary Journey is not that much more expensive than the "regular Basè essence 8-course dining menu, so worth considering if you are splurging on a dinner here anyway!

8 Moments Basè essence is around 110$ (wine pairing extra 85$ pp) while 11-Course Ku Culinary Journey is 150$ plus wine pairing 135$ pp.

We were blown away by this experience - and we have tried a lot of fine dining in Bali! We stayed in one of their luxury wooden cabins overnight and experienced the full tour of the premise, where they grow their own food. All ingredients at Locavore NXT are locally sourced.

If you don't stay overnight, Locavore NXT is a short 15 minute drive south of Ubud. The building is massive, with many different dining rooms which you'll all visit during your experience. We started our 20-course(!) dining experience at the bar area. There, we were handed headphones to listen to a mystical soundtrack and voice recording to get us in the right mood to experience this special night. After a first taste of the Into the Wild dish and a drink, we were taken down via impressive stairs into an underground space featuring a mushroom chamber. It was a dark room, more like a museum, where we tasted a dish called "ugly mushrooms". We had to gather this dish ourselves from a lighted terrarium that stood out in this dark space.

After our underground adventure, we were taken to the main dining room for a spectacular round of dishes. Some of our favorites included the cassava noodles with sea urchin, fish wrapped in bulun baon leaf, aged port with cassave and the rice koji porridge. We were a bit hesitant to try the raw lamb tartare, but it did not disappoint!

We got a little break when one of the waiters asked us if we wanted a short tour across the premise. A lot of experimentation is happening in their dedicated fermentation kitchen, and one of the chefs welcomed us to give some of their experimental sauces a try.

Olivia had the wine pairing while Dirk opted for the alcoholic drinks pairing which mostly consisted of fermented drinks, many mixed with local arak. The pace was quite fast, and as most dishes included a new drink, we were quickly getting into a slightly tipsy mood while enjoying all of the food. By the end we were getting quite full, but fortunately the dessert was very light.

It really was a spectacular night. The slogan of Locavore NXT is "LOCALISED REBELLION: A Hyper Local Restaurant Hub Inspired By Nature". We believe this description captures it very well, its a conscious place that anyone that cares about food will enjoy. You really can't go wrong by visiting Locavore NXT.

For real foodies that want the full experience, consider staying overnight in one of their three cabins. You'll have a spectacular breakfast in the morning accompanied by an extended tour of the premise. Our cabin included unique homemade snacks, kombucha and locally brewed coffees.

The restaurant offers both a-la-carte and tasting menus. Either are of great quality, but we would recommend trying one of their tasting menus, as they are extremely good value. You can choose your favorite: The Garden (vegetarian), The Pastures (meat), The Sea (fish and seafood) or Plant-Based (vegan) set menu. All of them offer 5 courses. You probably can't go wrong with either of these, but we really loved the seafood one.

The dishes are classic and of high quality. While less experimental and unique as some dishes served by other fine dining restaurants, we love the food and feel its very fairly priced. The only critique we could think of is that the food lost a bit of its connection with Bali and Indonesia, as its more inspired by Japanese, French and Italian cuisine.

Not something you would expect in the Ubud jungle... The world's first fine dining DESSERT experience, made famous by the Netflix show Chef's Table. Chef Will Goldfarb is lauded to be the Best Pastry Chef in the world. He learned the trade at multiple well-known restaurants including the legendary El Bulli.

You won't need to have dinner before heading here, as the 5 course dessert experience starts with some savory snacks. These are followed by the five unique desserts, wrapping up with delicious petit fours. The courses can be paired with amazing cocktails or mocktails.

We visited Room4Dessert and enjoyed the experience a lot. In advance, we were a little afraid that it would be too sweet, or too much dessert in a row. We did feel a little full at the end, but considering how many desserts we just consumed it still felt relatively balanced. The staff is extremely welcoming and friendly, and they explain each of the dishes - many of which use locally sourced ingredients and flavors unique to Bali. This is a very unique experience that you won't be able to find anywhere else in the world, and for that reason alone, we are happy to recommend it to any couple visiting Ubud.

Apéritif, part of the 5-star Viceroy Hotel in Ubud, is situated in an impressive colonial-style building with large Balinese art displayed on the walls. When we walked in Jazz was playing in the background and all the staff was dressed in classic attire. We immediate felt like stepping in to a different era. For us the experience was extra special, as Olivia's parents were visiting Bali (from Sumatra island) and they never tried fine dining before.

While Apéritif offers extensive degustation menu's (up to 10 courses), we went for the very fairly priced 3-course TASTED! Menu. Three courses does not sound like a lot, but the experience also included canapés, an amuse, mignardises, as well as bread and butter. It took us almost 3 hours and was very satisfying, so the 3-course menu might be a great affordable way to experience Aperitif.

We were first invited to the pinstripe cocktail bar which aims to bring back "the magic of the 1930s" (we believe it does a good job at that). We had a cocktail and canapes there first. The cocktails need some explanation as they are really special. Aperitif offers 10 cocktails inspired by famous people that used to live in Bali in the 1930s, including Charlie Chaplin. Our favorites include The Artist, a pistaccio-flavored cocktail inspired by painter Rudolf Bonnet, and The Prince, a spectacularly presented smokey cognac-based cocktails inspired by the noble Balinese Sukawati family.

After enjoying the canapes, we moved to the dining room. The 3-course menu offered us some choice on dishes, so we all ordered different things to experience as many flavors as possible. Before the starter arrived, we were already treated with an amuse and a wide selection of bread and three different types of butter. For starter, our favorite were the Hokkaido Scallops with pineapple sambal and the rose-shaped Tokusen Wagyu Carpaccio. As a main, the Australian Lamb Rack, while only one piece, is really delicious. Olivia's parents both ordered the Black Cod and both enjoyed that a lot. For dessert we really enjoyed the Sensation White dish with mango, meringue and coconot, as well as the peanut mousse with raspberry.

Finally, we were invited to move back to the Pinstripe bar to enjoy one more cocktail (some of us went for coffee instead) and some unique mignardises. Dinner at Apéritif was a very complete and satisfying experience, in the most classy environment we have ever seen in Bali. Compared to other fine dining experiences in the Ubud area it is very fairly priced.

For a romantic date, we suggest starting your experience at ARRIBA. As sunset is around 6-6:30PM, we suggest booking a table here for around 5PM (ask for one with a view). They serve delicious cocktails, most of them based on Mexican Tequila or Mescal. We are fans of Peruvian Ceviche and the ones served at ARRIBA are very tasty and authentic (ARRIBA website).

After enjoying a sunset cocktail, we suggest heading downstairs. A bonfire is lit here at night, adding to vibe! An Argentinian Chef oversees the kitchen. He introduced the different steaks to us, explaining the marble grading system and different types of steak he had on offer. All steaks are imported from Australia. We opted for the striploin, after which we were given a choice of multiple types of salts and sauces (3 types of chimichurri!). They do offer other dishes too, including fish and pastas for lunch.

We believe the combination of the sunset cocktail bar and steak restaurant makes this a great destination for couples, especially those that enjoy prime meats.

Ubud's fine dining scene is ever-evolving. New restaurants constantly emerge and old favorites occasionally fade away. Mozaic Restaurant has been a beacon of culinary excellence for over 25 years. It was the first fine dining restaurant to open in Ubud, so it clearly stood the test of time. We had dinner here recently and understand why: an excellent Michelin-level tasting menu, a spectacular venue and reasonable prices.

Mozaic is located in Campuhan, a very green area just outside of downtown Ubud. From the outside it is hard to tell how large the restaurant is, but it consists of multiple, like the Tipple Room for casual a-la-carte dining, a romantic private gazebo in the garden for an intimate dinner and a Chef's Table where you can see the dishes being prepared right in front of you.

However the most popular option at Mozaic is the Dining Room, a tastefully designed room surrounded by glass so you can see the green surroundings. Visitors will start their dinner here, but at some point are asked to move to the lush garden for the second half of their experience if the weather is good. The garden has a large barbecue area where the chefs prepare the dry-aged duck.

Unfortunately it was raining when we visited, so we enjoyed the full six-course experience from the Dining Room. Olivia went for the botanical option, as friends of ours told us the vegetarian menu at Mozaic is uncompromisingly good. Dirk selected the regular seasonal menu. Both come in an 8-course version too.

Our highlights from the seasonal menu included the confit trout with Bell Pepper and the seared foie gras. The latter was served to us by the head chef in a spectacular fashion. One touch that makes dining at Mozaic unique is the platter of herbs, fruits, vegetables and nuts that is added to your table. Waiters use it to explain the ingredients that are used in dishes. Olivia's vegetarian menu was good, but she tasted bits of the non-vegetarian dishes too and liked those slightly better.

A unique twist at Mozaic is that you can not only choose between wine and cocktail pairing: they also offer a "Grape & Grain" pairing option, cosisting of both wines and cocktails. We both loved the drinks that were served, and even had a chat with the super passionate Balinese mixologist.

Kojin Teppanyaki Omakase is quite a long name, lets unwrap it: Omakase means Chef’s Choice menu, meaning that they offer set tasting menus. Teppanyaki is the Japanese word for meet, fish or veggies that are prepared on a steel fire grill.VGuests are seated at a bar around the chef’s kitchen area, meaning you can see all food being prepared up close. Definitely worth going here if you are staying in the Aksari resort or elsewhere in the Tegallalang area. From central Ubud it takes about 30 minutes to get here.

Olivia chose dishes from the a-la-carte menu, while Dirk enjoyed the 8-course Sushi Omakase. Olivia’s starter consisted of delicious grilled scallops with salmon roe and she enjoyed Wagyu Rib Eye skewers for her main. Both were grilled on the firegrill right in front of us, by friendly chefs that were keen to explain everything. Dirk’s sushi tasting menu started with potato hokkaido. Interesting was that the sushi here was not only made with seafood: there was bacon pork enoki, asparagus nigiri and even some wagyu. We really enjoyed the Nigiri assortment, which we can only describe as a large “staircase” with different types of nigiri sushi (the blue fin tuna was the best!).

From Bali Airport, Ubud is around 1 hour drive, or 38 kilometers, away. If you stay in a hotel north of Ubud, your trip might take longer.
